Words hold weight – let me show you why.
Hello! I'm Kim "Kimmy Fae" Butin, a poet and writer based in Atlanta. I found solace in books as a child growing up in foster care and began writing poetry around the age of nine. At just eleven years old, one of my poems won a contest and was published in a book. Since then, words have been my way of connecting with the world and telling stories for those who feel unseen.
After keeping my work private for years, I returned to sharing my writing in 2021. Within six months I wrote over 1,500 poems and launched @kimmyfaewords on Instagram to showcase my haikus and free‑form pieces. I pair my poetry with graphic designs and dive into topics like adoption, depression, anxiety, and the complexities of foster care. My series Kids Without a Home explores the voices and experiences of children in the foster system.
I write to understand the human experience, especially the relational threads that bind us. My poems explore how we love, hurt, heal, and connect, processing those moments through language and art.
Through vulnerability and honesty, I hope my work helps others know they are not alone and encourages deeper connections to our shared emotions and stories.
